The Glenfiddich Ambassadors’ guide to the best bars in the World

27 April 2016

Once our whiskies leave Dufftown, they travel far and wide. Since 1963 when our founder’s great-grandson, Charles Grant Gordon, took our single malt to America - the land of blended whiskies - the world of whisky was forever changed. Now, you’ll find Glenfiddich being enjoyed in many different countries, in many different ways. Our Brand Ambassadors champion the spirit of Glenfiddich all over the world and they’re here to share their favourite places to enjoy a dram, ranging from an exclusive whisky lounge in Madrid to a tiny little treasure trove in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

L&B in Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Tony Van Rooijen, Netherlands Ambassador

Global Whisky Ambassador

Before I get to the bar advice I want to advise any traveller coming to my country to remember that the Netherlands lives and breathes water. So much so, that many Dutch people even live on the water! While you’re there, do as the Dutch do and cruise along the canal and soak it all in. Above all, make sure you go to the harbour, sail out to sea, anchor in shallow waters and enjoy your dram on a boat. There’s nothing else quite like it.
When you’re ready to take a step on to dry land and come into the shelter of a warm bar, my all-time favourite is “L&B”, a dedicated whisky bar. It’s a tiny little spot packed to the rafters with 1,700 whiskies from around the world. There you can enjoy the tasting menus they have for each of Scotland’s whisky regions and the staff are known for their friendliness and knowledge. As it’s a small place you have to get down early if you want to find a seat but it is well worth the fuss for the cosy atmosphere and the chance to taste such an extensive collection.

Auld Alliance in Singapore

Matthew Fergusson Stewart, Southeast Asia Ambassador

Global Whisky Ambassador

With over 1,400 whiskies in its library-esque setting, the Auld Alliance has one of the largest ranges in Asia. There amongst some of the world’s finest whiskies, I discovered a Glenfiddich Pure Malt from the early 60s. Not only that, but I had the rare privilege of opening it and enjoying a dram with Lloyd Grant Gordon, Charles Grant Gordon’s son. Recognised as a world-class whisky bar, its 70-page book-like menu is worth the visit alone.

Fox Restaurant Madrid in Madrid, Spain

 Sergio Quintana, Spain Ambassador

Global Whisky Ambassador

If you find yourself in Madrid, make your way to Fox Restaurant. It’s home to Madrid’s most stylish clientele and offers the most delicious Mediterranean fusion foods. To top it all off, Fox Restaurant even has its very own private Glenfiddich lounge. It’s undoubtedly one of the best spots in town to enjoy dinner and drams with friends.
